Two Important Items from last evening's Board of Education meeting.
First, the Board of Education passed a resolution to place a .5% increase to earned income tax levy on the ballot in November, 2018. Over the past couple months, we've worked to connect with the community during town hall meetings to share the successes of the district, and the needs moving forward to continue this success. In the last tele-town hall meeting we proposed two levy options, a .5% increase to the existing earned income tax or a property tax. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of the earned income tax.
After a great deal of discussion, questions and concerns, the Board also voted down a resolution that would have included us in the Butler County Educational Service Center tax district for a school safety levy. Ultimately, the Board felt the timing of adding this levy to the ballot at the same time as the earned income tax levy would create an undue burden to the tax payers of the District. While we will not be voting for or receiving funds through this county initiative, we will continue to allocate funds for student safety. Our District Safety Committee will re-convene in August to continue this work.
