Ross Local Schools Hall of Fame to Induct Twelve into the Class of 2019
The Ross Local Schools Hall of Fame completed a very successful inaugural year in 2018. The Hall of Fame comprises of four branches; Academic, Athletic, Fine Arts and Community. We are very pleased and honored to present the next class of inductees as the Ross Local Schools Class of 2019.
Mr. Greg Young - Greg Young’s leadership activities began in 1968 when, as a sophomore at Ross High School, he organized a group of students to spark a drive for a levy to support the district. Between 1988 and 2016, Greg served as Ross High School Assistant Principal, Principal, Ross Local Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. He oversaw successful levy campaigns, the construction of Ross High School, the district 1:1 technology initiative and the establishment of Ross as one of the elite districts in Southwest Ohio.
Mr. Roger Iams - Roger Iams taught at Ross High School for 21 years. During this time he started the FFA/Vocational Agriculture program where his groups won countless state and national awards. He was also the voice of the Ram football program on Friday nights for 15 years.
Fine Arts Hall
Ms. Pamela Jackson - Pam Jackson is a 1967 Ross High School graduate who performed with the Hamilton Symphony during high school and graduated from the University of Cincinnati – College Conservatory of Music in 1971. Ross Local Schools is also where Pam taught music and special education for 30 years. After retiring in 2001, she has stayed active with the Ross Band program, teaching private music lessons along with performing professionally with the Cincinnati Persian Music Ensemble and Ross High School musicals.
Charles C. Young Funeral Home - The Charles C. Young Funeral Home family has been supporting the Ross Local School District for over 64 years. The funeral home has supported numerous programs, activities, and projects through donations, the use of their property and vehicles, and most importantly, their time.
Watson Gravel. Inc. - Watson Gravel, Inc. has been investing in the future through donations, equipment, sponsorship and time. For the past decade, Watson Gravel has been instrumental in the support of the RMS FIRST Lego robotics program and the RHS Rambotics.
Mr. Michael Bruening - Mike Bruening was Ross’ first state champion in track and field when he won the 800m race in 1993. He was undefeated in the 800m that season and was named Runner of the Year by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Mrs. Laura Rullman - Laura Rullman was the first male or female athlete to earn 12 varsity letters at Ross. She did so in the sports of volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Laura went on the play volleyball for four years at Georgia Tech.
Mr. Ron Chasteen - Ron Chasteen was the coach of the 1980 basketball team that won the state title. He also had a successful career coaching basketball at Fairfield High School.
Mr. Gary Weitzel - Gary Weitzel was the fastpitch softball coach for 12 years, compiling a record of 257-59 and was named coach of the year 5 times. His teams won 10 League Championships, 8 District Championships, and 3 Regional Championships.
Mr. Matt Hess - Matt Hess holds the record for the best 3-point field goal percentage in a season and is third on the all-time scoring list. At Brescia University he set the record for 3-point field goals in a season. Matt was also a standout in football and still holds school records.
Mr. Brian Floyd - Brian Floyd was a 3-time state qualifier in wrestling. He is the current record holder for best record in two different weight classes.
Mr. Jim Kernohan - Jim Kernohan was a long time Athletic Director for the district. He was also an assistant coach on two state championship teams.
Induction weekend begins Friday, January 18, 2019 with the inductees being introduced at halftime of the home varsity basketball game against Harrison. The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Courtyard by Marriott Hamilton.
